A gift of negative image

Why are all my faults magnified?

Why are all their accomplishments glorified?

Aren’t I worth just as much?

Don’t I deserve the softest touch?

I have attributes that are as beautiful as the sun

As magnificent as the Universe

But I am thought of last

Never first

I stand with dignity

And speak with great base

But I am talked about behind my back

And smiled at in the face

Taking me serious isn’t a joke

At night contemplating

In the bath as I soak

"My mind is deep with mountainous elevations"

"One of god’s most marvelous creations"

I’ve been portrayed as this arrogant and cold being

I look in the mirror

But that’s not what I’m seeing

"I can’t let their ways change me

"Everyday struggling to set this soul free"

A Unique profile

The mirror looks back with a powerful smile

A black woman

I should be proud

They’re trying to bite my style

Yes. Be like me

Oh, it’s much harder than what you see

The Hair, Physique and Ethnic speak

Oh, go ahead you can try to acquire

But so much more is definitely required

You’ll never manage to carry my struggle on your back

Or understand my life

Being black

But be my guest

You can definitely try

I’ll sit back and watch

Head held high

Because I know when the end is abound

I’ll still remain unmoved

Feet planted firmly on the ground

Strong

Black
